Club Events

Our Calendar of Events lists upcoming club meetings. Contact us for more information.

Below are some highlights from some past events. The All British Field Meets and Christmas Parties pages showcase those great events.

Monthly meetings

We try to get together every month. In the summer, we like to take a group drive or share a meal in a park. When the weather isn't as nice, we visit museums or car shops. In December, we have a Holiday Party.
2019 went out with a bang at PTC’s Holiday Party

Annual General Meetings

Picture
Each year we gather to reflect upon the year and elect new officers.
In 2013, for example, we met at at Griot's Garage in Tacoma. We had eight Rootes vehicles parked strategically in the front, which worked into a fine display that dove-tailed with Griot’s “caffeine and gasoline” cruise-in event at the same time. One Saturday a month Griot’s has this gathering where everyone is encouraged to drive their “fun” cars and bench race in the parking lot. With the weather cooperating, it allowed some time to walk through the lot and see some other iron…and aluminum.
Dick Sanders, our new newsletter editor, brought back the “Boxes of Mystery.” It is amazing how it often can be difficult to identify a part without seeing it. Once again Dick [with help from Budd Bennion] found some real teasers for the folks to identify. In the end there were three members who identified all six parts correctly and they participated in a second-round “box-off” to determine the winner. The three finalists were Brian Doan, Brett Simpson and Bob Bennion, with Brett the eventual champion. Congrats to all who participated and thank you Dick for bringing back the Boxes!
Griot’s provided their café room free of charge and the room was well equipped with a full kitchen and plenty of tables to seat us all. We ordered pizza delivered which was soon consumed and we concluded with a short meeting where all the new and old officers were confirmed. In addition we had some gifts from Griot’s and other hopefully useful parts and kitchen utensils that were raffled off.

2015 Annual General Meeting at 132 Slot Car Raceway and Griot's Garage

Our 2015 annual general meeting was held at 132 Slot Car Raceway and Griot's Garage in Tacoma.
After an hour of scale-racing thrills, we had lunch across the street at Griot's 1950's-themed diner. Rare Sunbeam manuals or memorabilia were on display on the "Show 'n Tell" table. We elected club officers for 2016 and celebrated the past year of fun and diverse club events.

Race Results:
  1. Dave Dunn with 53.7 laps
  2. Larry Ingersoll with 50.3 laps
  3.  Kylie Keyzer with 50.2 laps
  4. Dick Sanders
  5. Paul
  6. Greg
  7. Carol
  8. Brian Faerge
  9. Rob Carptenter/Bob Bennion

2014 Annual General Meeting

Our 2014 annual general meeting was held at the 125th Street Grill in Seattle. We had a delicious lasagna lunch in the company of friends.
We also re-elected club officers, caught up on club news and business, and shared stories from recent events.

Dick Sanders returned with another challenging "Boxes of Mystery" game.
Budd Bennion delighted us with great door prizes.  And everyone enjoyed the "show & tell" exhibits.

2012 Annual General Meeting

Picture
The Issaquah Hailstone Feed Store and Antique Gas Station was the site for the Annual General Meeting on October 12th. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate and we experienced the start of fall with rain and wind. Space was a little tight but we all managed to find a seat and eat Subway sandwiches accompanied by many great side dished provided by the attendees. Bill Clemans drove his blue Series II Alpine and to everyone’s surprise a second almost identical blue Series II arrived driven by Kylie Keyzer and her husband Jeff. Both cars were prominently displayed in front of the antique Shell gas pumps. We held a short meeting where all the officers were re-elected for another term.

Bloedel Reserve Tour on Bainbridge Island

We had a great turnout for our tour of the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island. Paul Sanders organized a private tour of the grounds where we learned about the history of the property.
"Unique among public gardens in the United States, The Bloedel Reserve was created by Prentice Bloedel and his wife, Virginia, who resided on the property from 1951 until 1986. The son of a prominent lumber company owner... in the late 1920s, he was called upon by his father to take the helm of the family timber business. He took an early retirement from the MacMillan Bloedel Timber Company in 1950 to devote the balance of his life to the creation of the gardens of what is now The Bloedel Reserve. Although he was advised by and worked with noted landscape architects, including Thomas Church, Richard Haag, Fujitaro Kubota, and Iain Robertson, the overall vision for The Reserve’s gardens was his alone."

After our relaxing tour, Paul and Camilla hosted a lovely lunch at their home. Thank you both for organizing such a wonderful event.

2014 British car day at Redmond Town Center

Vintage Racing Motors in Redmond, WA

Picture
Our March meeting was held at Vintage Racing Motors in Redmond, WA and was attended by nearly 30 people! Owner Byron Sanborn treated us all to a tour of their shop and meticulously described the attributes and specifications of the many diverse vintage race cars they are working on. Many thanks to Wayne and Sharon Reuter who arranged this meeting for us.

2012 Sunbeam Northwest

Picture
The weather cooperated to make Sunbeam Northwest a great event! Many people arrived on Thursday afternoon and we set up our chairs on the lawn outside the rooms and got the weekend started off with stories and libations.
Friday morning started with the Concours which was short drive down the hill to Marathon Park on Capital Lake. After judging, we enjoyed a Rallye through the Tumwater valley. Saturday began early with our autocross event. Each person got 6 runs to try and reduce their run times. The course once again provided for some fast speeds. By 3:00pm the fun was over and back we went to the hotel for more fraternizing. The event wrapped up with a short awards ceremony on Sunday morning where the winners received their trophies and door prizes were given away in between presentations.
