Common Rootes Twenty two people attended the January meeting at Kevin & Judy’s home. After lunch and plenty of gab, we opened the discussion about club activities for the coming year. We are trying to fill the entire calendar early so that all of you can start setting aside dates for those events that you want to attend. We know that few of you can attend every event. That is part of the reason we are listing a variety of events. The preliminary calendar is shown elsewhere in this issue. We will add to this calendar as the year goes on. As I have indicated in previous columns we are trying to provide more driving events this year. After the very successful AGM last year, we are also looking at changing some of the events. For instance we are considering having a holiday brunch this year rather than the traditional evening party of past years. There is nothing wrong with having a very full calendar, so if there is an event that you think might be of interest, let our activity chairs or Kevin know, and we will add it to the listing. The summer fills up fast, but you will note some holes in the spring and fall, so we would appreciate hearing from you. Starke Shelby took the time to explain to us the history and mechanics of the Maryhill Hill Climb. He confirmed that the Quality Inn in Goldendale fills up very fast with the racers, and there are only 44 rooms, so if you want to stay there, call them without delay and make your reservations (509-773-5881). Judy and I have booked their largest room and will make that room our party central. So please join us this year. There are wineries galore in the area as well as the Maryhill Museum to visit for non-car related activities. The hill climb road was the first paved road in Washington State. It is opened only twice per year, once for this car event and another time for motorcycles. Starke is in negotiations to allow the club an escorted tour to the top just prior to the car show. This would be a first, and while it wouldn’t be “at speed” it would give us a firsthand viewing of the 20+ turns that make up the 2.1 mile hill climb. Our next meeting will be a Super Bowl party at Budd Bennion’s. Don’t like football? Come anyway and we will start a card game in the kitchen. Make it a point to get back active in your club. Aren’t the activities and friendships why you originally joined, and have continued to renew your membership in, PTC? See you on the road.
